Great for hard hitting, crunchy rhythms, and searing lead tone. Pair it with the SH-6n Distortion neck pickup, or with the SH-2n Jazz, or SH-1n 59 model for a versatile combo. The Invader’s power comes from the combination of specially overwound coils and three large ceramic magnets, along with its striking oversized metal oxide pole pieces. These expand the overall magnetic field and widen the frequency spectrum, which is why every note played through an Invader sounds so rich. It delivers the thickest and deepest, low end response of any passive pickup we make. Chords sound full and almost subsonic with lower tunings, and balance nicely with the crunchy treble that keeps everything well defined. Imagine a P.A.F. with extra midrange sizzle that’s been dipped in Texas hot sauce. That’s the Pearly Gates. The Pearly Gates bridge captures all the mojo of the original bridge pickup from Billy Gibbons’ 1959 Les Paul. Seymour discovered the pickup had slightly more output than most P.A.F.s, which helped to give it the extra drive that makes this pickup so special. The Alnico 2 bar magnet keeps the high end sounding airy but focused, and the midrange emphasis gives it a unique Texas sizzle. Pinch harmonics really sing with this pickup too. It really has a growl all its own and will help to bring any humbucker-style instrument to life, but it’s also great for adding some growl to a Stratocaster.
